We are currently living through a huge wave of renewed interest and a spike in development of board games and there are so many to choose from. So there are so many possible answers to this question, but before I attempt a more direct answer here are some considerations.
Some games are designed for only 2 people (e.g. Chess, Onitama), some are party games that work best with 6 or more people (e.g. One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Telestrations). Even a really good game with the wrong player count can be a drag.

I would recommend being open with your family and friends. Explain that board games are important to you, and suggest that they try one of the simpler, less intimidating games. Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride have been great for the board game community at large because they are gateway games, but if even those are too much to start, I would highly recommend the above games. Do some research on games. You know your family and friends, so you have a better idea of what they would or wouldn't like. You can always point out that any game beats everyone sitting around on their phones.

My friends and I just love to play board games. We love to play Junk Art, this is a game similar to Jenga, see more details here jenga-game.com/reviews/junk-art-game-review/. Every other game can be completely different. In one game, each player gets all the colored pieces, and you turn the card over, and everyone must find this piece and put it on their tower. In another game, all players will play a card from their hand, and whoever plays the highest number draws each card and gives one card to himself, the other cards to everyone else, and these are the chips you have. We have a lot of fun together.
